SA Multicultural Debate design

Project type: web design

Client: SA Multicultural Debate

What’s nifty about this project?

Initially, the team putting together the SA Multicultural Debate were considering a conventional multi-page website. After a consultation, I introduced them to the concept of the one page website, in which all content is served on a single homepage. This approach allows users to scan for general information without needing to navigate from one page to another. A navigation bar, meanwhile, allows users who know what they’re looking for quick access to relevant content.

The Rereaders Redesign

Project type: web design

Client: therereaders.com

What’s nifty about this project?

The team behind The Rereaders, a popular literary and cultural podcast, were looking for a new web design that would be both memorable and super easy to navigate. Recognising that most listeners enjoy their podcasts on the go, I worked on a responsive design optimised for both mobile and large-screen devices.

VolunteerConnect Design

Project type: web design, branding, and video

Client: Adelaide University Union, vconnect.org.au

What’s nifty about this project?

VolunteerConnect is a hyperlocal social network allowing volunteers to connect with organisations that meet their interests. The interface is clear and friendly, and users are guided through the process of setting up an account and applying for their first position. A short video, which acts as an advertisement and guided tour, sets the tone for VolunteerConnect: a service for engaged students who need an easier way to fit volunteering opportunities into their active lives.

Tools, frameworks, and philosophies employed in this project:

The 960 CSS grid system, HTML5 video (plays well with Flash-less devices), Final Cut Pro X, Apple Motion, and the belief that we can use the web to enable people to do good.

Dubnium Literary Mini-Journal

Project type: print design

Client: SA Writers’ Centre

What’s nifty about this project?

Dubnium is a single-page literary journal distributed monthly inside a high-distribution local street press magazine. In designing the layout for the journal, I wanted to balance readability against a striking visual aesthetic. I also wanted to ensure a high level of consistency between editions while still enabling the form to flexibly support changing content. (This project is ongoing).

Tools, frameworks, and philosophies employed in this project:

Typefaces from the Lost Type Co-Op, a belief that great writing demands attention to presentation.
